Given the situations going on right now...and specualtions for the future...
Do you think there will be a draft reinstated at any point in the future? what will be the different ways to avoid it...will it be harder to avoid than the last time a draft was issued?

Chill, I'm not saying I don't like this country. I'm glad to have my freedoms.

I'm just worried about my boyfriend, because I'd like to see him safe.

A draft is not likely because there are many peripheral issues that go along with one. Will women be drafted? If not, that's discrimination, and some guy could sue. If they are, the protest would be too great from the nation to support whoever made the decision. Also, there are currently plenty of volunteer soldiers ready to go into battle. The current conflicts around the world are nowhere near the circumstances when drafts have been instituted before.

It is hard to say there will never be a draft again we all would like to see no war and all our kids safe and sound but if we keep stretching the military in different wars around the world we cannot do anything but start a draft again we have to stop trying to police the whole world and let them take care of their own problems.

There will be no Draft in the US ever again.

I served with draftees, and I served later in the all volunteer Army.

Draftees don't want to be there. That forces NCO's to spend a lot of time and energy just getting them out of bed in the morning, and very little training goes on. Volunteers cause less discipline problems, and become better trained in less time.

The bottom line is that the Draft simply doesn't work. It doesn't get us a force that can actually do anything.

There would have to be a full military mobilization before a draft was re instated. In short, we'd have to go to war with Korea or Iran right now on top of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Neither of which currently is likely even with the Sabre rattling going on.

It may come if North Korea and Iran don't change. Iraq won' cuase the draft.

The only ways to avoid this would be fleeing the country *cough*Clinton*cough* and be a wuss about it. People have fought for your freedoms and to not do the smae for others is disgraceful. If I get drafted I'll go even if I disagree.

Possibly. If the republicans stay in office and rule the government as they have been the past 6 years, someone will have to put more troops in Iraq just to get us out. And you can bet it wont be this administration, therefore prolonging the war and tallying the death toll.

And why aren't you worried about the draft. You know they draft women too, don't you?

Only Dems, particularly Charles Rangel, want a draft. The best way to avoid a draft is to vote Rep.

If we get entrenched in a long-term war, it will have to be reinstated. Of course the elite, such as the Bush family, will of course skirt their duty. The poor on the other hand, like always, will end up serving and paying the highest price for their honor.

OK... first of all calm down... there will be no draft... we have enough soldiers to have a voluntary army... the only way to avoid getting drafted is to be disabled... brake a bone or something... thrall be no drafting... and if there will be one, there's always Mexico...
