I'm 22, Asian-Spanish mix. I was thinking of giving modelling a shot until i saw the height requirements. The shortest they take is 5'11 and you have to be 14-18. Men my age have to be at least 6ft tall. I'm only 5'8... Why is it that all Male models have to be so tall? Women got petite. Why can't men have an equivalent? I don't get it. I'm sure a huge portion of buyers of advertised stuff aren't 5'11+. In fact, i think the population of tall guys don't even outnumber shorties like me.

Because the size of the clothes they make fit tall men.
Don't stop looking. There will be a place that will hire you as a model. Keep looking and don't give up. Sadly looks are important too. You can be a male in your 40's and 50's for magazine work but have to have that model face.

It's not just that clothes will hang better on a tall person, designers also do what they call samples and samples are only made a certain size (one size fits all for tall) because it takes less time to put up a collection for every season and they can do retouches at the last minute and they don't have to worry about making one sample a lot of sizes for fear the model won't find his size, after all, they don't make the clothes to fit the model, they take the models that fit the clothes.

Most if not all the top female models are at least 5'7". The fashion designers claim that clothes look better on tall and thin people so that is why they use tall male and female models. The fashion industry is the most out of touch industry when it comes to real life. I would like to see a clothing designer who makes clothes for real people, not these stick thin creatures you see on the runways. As for your interest in modelling, why not give it a try anyway. With persistance, you never know what will happen until you give it your best shot.

i happen to know alot about this subject just in more the femalee area im not sure how tall u cant be but most of the time the taller the better how tall u r would be just fine and in the pay area it all depends on if ur a commercial model runway and others hope i helped

Even female models are tall for they're height. Being tall is seen as sexy to some people. Even though i'm 6ft tall, I am not at all good enough to be a model.

clothes just hang better on taller people - man or woman - so they showcase them that way.
I'd be willing to bet that most men would find buying a man-teite size too much of an ego buster and wouldnt do it even if it was available...
