Okay, so I understand the different types are based on your processor. I have looked everywhere on my computer, and even my computer manufacturer's website, and nothing says clearly if I have a 32 bit processor or a 64 bit processor.

I'm using an Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3E GHz with 1MB L2 Cahe and HT Technology (Hyper-Threading Technology)

It's a Sony VAIO running Windows XP Home. It's only about a year and a half old, which I guess is pretty old when it comes to electronics. :O)

Because my computer does not say it anywhere, not even in the control panel, when you choose System, and goto the General Info tab, nothing says 64 bit, I'm assuming it's a plain 32 bit.

Let me know if I should check someplace else, or assume it's a 32 bit.

Thanks a ton!~

It is definately 32 bit, and no, it is not bullshit, 64 bit is the future, but unless you are running incredibly demanding software, you wont need it I suppose.

You have 32bit. XP Home was never supported on 64 bit systems, so you don't have one.

As an aside, I'd make really sure this is an upgrade you wanna do as Vista is going to be a serious horsepower consumer. To get the full effects you need 128MB RAM on the video card (which I doubt is on a Vaio configured with XP Home). We are running the beta at our office on hardware well over what Microsoft says we need and it ain't enough :)

With the 64-bit Vista users will be able to playback HD DVD and Bluray movies. Microsoft left that out of the 32-bit version of Vista.

While Microsoft specifies 1 GB of main memory (RAM), Nigel Page of Microsoft has indicated that 2 GB is the ideal configuration for 64-bit Vista which processes data chunks that are double the size for those for 32-bit Vista, hence requiring double the memory.

Yeah, I think it's pretty safe to assume that it's a 32 bit machine, because if you've noticed on every 64 bit machine, there's a label explicitly stating that's it's a 64 bit. I hope this helped.
