I have sprayed them and soaped them but I keep getting spider mites. The other plants in my home are fine. I have about 40 plants. I have been told that the spider mite burrows in the dirt, is this true? I have also been told that the only way to get rid of them permanently is to bake the dirt. This sounds absurd. Any ideas?

The florist is the one that said to bake the dirt, however, she was unclear on just how to treat them. She also said to throw away the plant.

A nicotine mix could work but the problem with that is you don't really know how much nicotine is in the solution. Too much can hurt the plant--especially roots.
Since you have roses I recommend neem oil. It kills the mites by suffocation and it also has fungicidal properties and roses are susceptible to fungal diseases. You'll protect you plant in two ways with neem oil. Bonide sells it as Rose 3in1 Rx. You can get it as a concentrate or ready to use. If your L&G Center doesn't carry Bonide other companies also make it. It comes from the seeds of the neem tree.
Spider mites don't get in the dirt. They stay on the foliage and stems. But 90% of them are on the undersides of the leaves so it's important to spray thoroughly, top and bottom. Try to get them under control because they can spread to other plants.
If you want something that lasts longer than neem try Shultz Houseplant Insect Killer. It lasts about 3-4 weeks and is made from the flowers of crysanthemums.

Believe it or not. Take about 20 cigarettes butts drop them in a gallon of water. let em soak for a couple days. The nicotine tea will kill the mites you can spray the plants or water the plants with the tee try to spray the under side of the leafs.

either that or replace all the soil in your pot where you are getting them. also try talking to the local florist and or local garden center

Hi i took mine in the shower turn the pot on the side and spray them all away. its working so far .
