either A. he found out something about you he didnt like, like past grades or what not... or B. his wife said hell no you arnt letting a blonde girl intern with you. or C. he just wanted to do you and then decided maybe he better not put himself in that situation. ♥ its ok, ive discovered everything happens for a reason. maybe now you will get a much better offer somewhere.

maybe he talked to your advisor or looked up your transcripts with grade history after he asked you and discovered that there was something in there that he didn't like. Or maybe he's heard from your advisor or a former teacher that you are not a good candidate for the type of internship that he was considering you for?
Its all about a good fit!
If you want to do an internship talk to your advisor about other interning oppurtunities might be out in the community. I volunteered one summer at a 24 hour crisis / suicide hotline for internship credit. That type of life experience I couldn't have gotten out of anything my college was offering me.

I do not know his reason, but you might find out if he has had female interns before or now... or if he only has a record of allowing males into the program. I smell a lawsuit if that's the case!
Of course, you could just ask him outright why he changed his mind. Be professional and unemotional in the conversation. Gather what information you can, and go from there.

The other answers are good, but it could possibly be something else entirely going on that you are unaware of that influenced his decision.
Then again, maybe he didn't count on you discussing it with an advisor and he's the dirty old man type.
Could be anything. Ask him.

Well like the others say it could be tht he didn't like something in ur transcripts or may be something was lacking in ur transcripts tht was required for working with him. Why worry, there must be so many more opportunities, why not grab one of them instead of wasting time and energy wondering about this one

He offered it to you, listened to your response and based on your response decided that you would not be a good team member. It might have been your attitude, it may have been your answers, it may have been your schedule. it wasnt because you were female, as he DID ask you in the first place.

Haven't you heard of absent minded professor?
They are very smart, but they aren't always good with people. They are often flakey
Don't worry about it.
