Vh1 is insane. Bon Jovi's "Livin on a Prayer" isn't the #1 song of the 80's in my book! ( I realize people voted on this.) What's your fave?

I worded that wrong.

F.Y.I. "Don't You Forget About Me" was done by the band Simple Minds for the Breakfast Club soundtrack. Good one

I Like "Livin' on a Prayer" and I can see it even being an anthem but so is "We're not Going to Take It" by Twisted Sister which is even more of an anthem of the '80s. OK, so what are we looking for to be #1? I've had Livin' on a Prayer in my CD collection now for maybe 18 years and I don't think I've even played it during the '90s nor the 2000's. I've had "Just Like Heaven" by the Cure for about as long and it sounds just as fresh today as it did then. The same goes for "Here comes Your Man" by the Pixies. I play those songs incessantly. No, "Livin' on a Prayer" doesn't hold up today.

Bon Jovi is the greatest band of all time. Of course Livin on a Prayer is the best song of the 80's. Everyone who disagrees must know very little about music.

Bon Jovi was singularly the most over rated band of the 80's.
On my list of top 80's faves (mind you, I graduated high school in 87);

Whisper To A Scream... Icicle Works
Ghost In You... Psychedelic Furs
Lips Like Sugar... Echo & The Bunnymen
Goody Two Shoes... Adam Ant
Tempted... Squeeze
She Sells Sanctuary... The Cult
It's My Life... Talk Talk
The Promise... When In Rome

Hey, as a child of the 80's, I love Bon Jovi. I love alot of music from the 80's. But for me, the best is Love shack.

I agree with you. That's really not the #1 song of the 80's, but I never liked 80's music anyway. I think that songs I like skip right through from 70's to 90's to today.

Nena -"99 Luftballoons", Scorpions - "Love at First Sting", Bangles - "Walk Like an Egyptian".

Hell, I think Bon Jovi's "Runaway" was better than "Livin on a Prayer".

I guess it all depends on what the criteria are, but honestly, like him o rnot, now or back then, I would have to say that a Michael Jackson song would have to be the penultimate 80's song. Beat It, Thriller, Bad, who knows.

If you're going to name a hair/rock band song tops for the 80's, I'd have to go with a Van Halen song...maybe Jump or Hot For teacher...

but worldwide, overall...it's hard to out-80's MJ.

Tough call-- definitely not that one. Heck-- that's not even the best Bon Jovi Song-- that's "Wanted Dead or Alive"

My fav? I think I'd go with "We Belong" "Come on Eileen" or "Funkytown"

Not that they're necessarily the BEST songs, but they're quintessentially 80s

I think I'm gonna have to agree. The only other song that comes close is "Don't You Forget About Me" - that song from the Breakfast Club.
