The usual cause of scoliosis in a majority of cases is idiopathic-meaning no one knows why it occurs. Other causes will include poliomyelitis and trauma or insult to your vertebral column. Of the choices you gave, spinal nerve root damage will fall under trauma. This can cause postural scoliosis-meaning your spine specially the lumbar area, will assume an abnormal lateral(side) curvature due to pain secondary to muscle spasms and the like. If you correct the damage, the scoliosis will settle down unlike the idiopathic or paralytic(polio) type. Leg length discrepancy can also cause your pelvis to tilt toward the short extremity, thereby giving an impression of abnormal lateral curvature in the spine. If the discrepancy is again corrected either by leg lengthening or shoe lifts, the postural scoliosis will disappear.

A&B.. any nerve root damage would be the result of the changes occuring, resultant to the spinal changes. You left out an important one however... there are occasional malformed vertebrae.. congenital. Aside from spina bifida.

I'm not aware that any of those are the cause of scoliosis. It is a curvature in the spine that is usually there as you are growing and not caused by anything but is there because you are born with it and will have it regardless because it is congenital, predetermined in your genes. My opinion. I think these conditions may cause it as a side effect of that disease but is not the cause of true scoliolosis.

It is a curvature of the spine and it usually occurs in girls who are who would normally be tall. I actually have two curves in my spine and they just happen to balance each other out. My spine looks like a backwards S.
