Because I have a band audition tomorrow and I am worried that the other members won't give me a chance simply because I don't fit the 'rock' mold. By the way, I am a very skilled musician. What are your ideas?

Chuck Berry invented rock n roll.

Any person who doesn't give you a chance is ignorant to the actual roots of rock and roll and you don't want to be involved with them anyway.

Tina Turner said the same thing and she opened for the Rolling Stones. Look at Hootie and the Blow Fish. Their lead singer is a black guy (I am not sure of the genre) You would be surprised that the only prejudice you have is the ingrained kind. The band could think it is a wonderful gimmick and you could have a number one hit and lot's of fans. You would be on MTV and then showing your house on Cribs. You win a Grammy and no one will keep reminding you that you are black but you and you don't really fit the mold. Trust me you fit the mold if you are even willing to try. Most people wouldn't. I hope that I am giving you a hope because I want you to think large. Good Luck and God Bless.

I think a rock band with a black woman sounds cool. If you really kick *** in your audition tomorrow I don't think it will matter. Maybe you need to find some other black women who rock and form an all black woman band. That would be hot!

If I had the talent absolutely YES. I think the most music talent is in the black community. There was a time I was interested in music. Musicians are the most down to earth people going without even knowing it they never seem to me (white/black) see any barriers they could teach us all alot! I once went to a EJ/BJ concert the young black girl sang parts 'cuz Joel got some age on him. That chic played sax & keyboard knok sox off!!!

If you got the chops to play in a band I say go forward full steam and do it.

Walk in there tomorrow like you are the gal from Dover and rock their world. Don't act scared, and don't apologize for anything. Do your stuff, break a leg, and accept the consequences.

I'm proud of you.

Aww, hon, don't be worried. Actually, they probably would think you were rather sexy, if you don't mind my saying so.
Hell yeah, I would play in a band with a black woman. Why not? To be in a band with a woman period is nifty, because most of them are guys.
Would you really want to be in a band where they were bigots?

What does it matter with the colour of your skin?
If you really are talented they would be stupid not to let you be part of the band because they would be putting the band at a risk!
by the way Good luck!
