Most people will let you go to a funeral without saying anything. Just tell them that there was a death in the family.

This is a question for your boss. If this person has ANY kind of heart he or she will give you the day off or try a compromise and go in before or after the funeral. Good Luck!

You shouldn't get fired you should be allowed to go to the funeral.

my husband could not come to my aunts funeral or my grandmothers, due to work. Most places have a "immediate" family only rule. Its common, unfortunately.

There should be some stipulation about funeral if you have an employee handbook (if you have one). Sometimes they only allow time off for close relatives (mother/father/siblings) but check it out.

fired for wife's aunt funeral - yup.
definatly not immediate family.
send her off with your regards and got to work.
you do not have any legal leg to stand on.

It depends on how many other times you have used unapproved time off? Does your co. have cap on unapproved hours? If you are not on any warning, I don't think you could get fired. Perhaps you might get an warning after taking this day off.. Talk to your manager i am pretty sure they can accommodate your request.

its possible since its not your immediate family. immediate family would be your aunt
