In another 50 years everyone will know that we already do right now.
Some writers that I believe will survive as literature are Mark Haddon, and Dave Eggers -- but before all of them, there is Kurt Vonnegut: a mad scientist with a heart of pure gold. A couple of years ago, at eighty-two, he wrote yet another book that was bitter and satirical, and broke my heart and made me laugh, and reminded me of my Grandpa all at once. When he dies the world will have lost the most colorful person left to describe it.

Of course. There are tons of great writers out there now. Problem is people don't put as much emphisis into reading as they did back in the days of Emerson and Hemmigway.

i sincerely hope so. Nothing against the classics, but having great, new stuff is preferable. i like reading books that capture my attention and hold it until the last page. and then, when i get to that last page, i feel better that i have read such a fantastic story. but, i think we have a few great writers out there making a name for themselves. J. K. Rowling for one. she's definetly moving up in the world. but, yes, i think we will have another great writer make a name for herself/himself. why wouldnt we?
