Not for the most part. In most aspects of my life, I tend to put myself down while elevating those around me.

Yes, sometimes in reality no matter how much I try, I don't have the ability to be better than some people. On the other hand, when I've been able to perform something better than others, I feel great.

All the time in my academic world...
Sometimes i won't talk in class because i'm scared someone else will claim my idea as their own. I don't usually talk about the topics or thesis' of my papers. I use general statements, not personal. I just have this obsession with being the best... I'm not psycho about it. I just follow these guidelines in my head.
In life, i try to be the best person i can be. I'm better than some, worse than others. It's all relative.

Honestly, that part of living in a society that thrives on competition. The trick is trying not to be better than others at all costs. If you have to cheat then you are not better. You are just a cheater. Better assumes all things are equal.

I don't feel like I'm trying to be better than others, it's more a matter of doing my own best. I hate when I fail at something but I don't pit myself against others.

I try to be better than other people that I perceive to be mean or negative in anyway. But mostly I try to be the best person I know how to be and not gage myself against others.

Only when I'm competing with other business folks. Mine is a very small field, with a very small number of people in it.
The rest of the time, I'm just me. I'm not trying to be better or worse. People can take me at face value or they can choose to go away.

nope, I know my strengths and weaknesses and I'm quite happy with the way I am.
Generally people trying to be ' better' than someone else suffer from low senses of self-esteem because deep in their hearts they don't think they really measure up to others. In trying to be ' better' than someone else , you need to look down on someone to make yourself feel bigger.

When I was younger I think I did, but as I've gotten older I find myself trying to be the best I can everyday. I like to encourage others--not compete with them.
