When is it right for a nation to have nucalure power?

Fat americans with there big fat asses say Iran shouldnt have nuclear power. I recon they should have it to power there buildings schools and utilities. At the end of the day no one is stupid enough to drop a nuke. (Bar the yanks) Are they?

Nucalure? I'm assuming you mean nuclear ;). I'm not sure that it's ever 'right' for a nation to have nuclear power. I find it to be quite a thorny issue and have by no means resolved my personal issues with nuclear energy as a way of generating power for civilian use - I just can't decide if the pros outweigh the cons.

As for nuclear warheads, my feelings here are more clearcut about it being a bad thing, but that horse has very definitely left the stable, so my feeling is that, although I do not believe it is right for any country to possess nuclear weapons, the ones that do have no 'right' to tell any other nation that they cannot have nuclear weapons of their own.

I'm not sure if anyone will ever use a nuclear weapon - it's not so much a question of stupidity as it is one of respect for life. If people have no respect for the life of others and believe they will be rewarded in a supposed afterlife for their actions, they might be willing to use such weapons.

Oh, and for all of those saying Iran doesn't need nuclear power because they have a lot of oil - nuclear power doesn't have the same impact on climate change as fossil fuel generated power (not that nuclear power doesn't have horrific environmental impacts of its own), so there *is* a legitimate reason to want nuclear power. I'm not saying that I believe Iran's intentions are quite so benevolent, but anything's possible!

Nuclear weapons, have been a deterrant for most nations for many years,, and I feel that countries with stable governments, should have the right to defend themselves, against aggressors.

When it comes to Countries with fanatical leaders, who basically hate, any Western Nation, such as Iran, Iraq & North Korea, the whole of NATO, should not happen

Yes America dropped a nuke two of them and by doing so ended WWII, two to three years early and saved thousands of both Japanese and American lives.

I mean seriously, a nuclear reactor costs millions and the fuel is going to be difficult to acquire. OR, they could dig a hole in the ground, get a bucketful, light it on fire and have the same thing. Just what I think.

dont' forget the israelis... they are more prone to dropping nucs than the US.
personnally, if one country is allowed to have nuclear technology, then all countries are allowed them. and if it comes to nuclear war... well it won't last for very long, and it will never happen again.
in the case of iran, even if they wanted nuc.bombs, i think they have a case for self defense considering they have a paranoid neibour in israel, who supported by an insane president in the US. combined, that is impressive fire power, and iran doesn't stand a chance if they decide to attack. and considering israels recent defeat in lebanon, they are far more likely to use a nuc. to ensure success on their next mission.

There is no need to drop a nuke if you are a suicide bomber, the radio active material can simply be carried by the aircraft impacting within a metropolitan area to progressively kill those residents who come into contact with it.
Hence there is a 100% probaility that some Arab nutter will nuke Israel or the US using Iranian nuclear materials if they are allowed to proceed.

I haven't figured out my opinion on that subject, but I know that a lot of people argue that Iran doesn't need it because they're sitting on the 3rd largest oil reserves in the world.
