Does anyone know what person in history could pitch the fastest baseball? What speed did it go?

The dictionary defines pitch as a thrown baseball, so just to be interesting and argumentative(sorry it's my nature)...A baseball has been thrown 450ft, to do this the ball would have had to leave the "pitchers" hand at 120MPH

Later:
there are two that don't believe in facts...LOL...At least check it out first! I quote my source as proof...

yea i really have to wonder if leroy paige threw faster than 104. i'm sure he did. he played most of his career in the superior league against mostly better players than the ones in MLB. stories was him throwing so fast you couldn't see the ball on the way to the plate. i'm sure some of it is mythical, just like old babe ruth stories, but he constantly struck out the greatest hitter ever, Big Josh Gibson. by the way, everyone worrying about barry breaking the home run record, he won't because Big Josh hit well over 800.

Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals. He payed in the 60's and could throw over 100 mph on given days. My most favorite pitcher of all times.

"The greatest reliably recorded speed at which a baseball has been pitched is 100.9 mph by Lynn Nolan Ryan (California Angels) at Anaheim Stadium in California on August 20, 1974."

Since you're a righty, that means you're swinging too early. A fraction of a second can make a huge difference where the ball gets hit.

I'm 90% sure it was Nolan Ryan and it might have occurred in the 1980's.

it is officaly nolen ryan at 100.9 mph but farnsworth for the cubbies hit 105 zumia hit 105 and bobby jenkins hit 103 at one time. the radar guns vary speeds so it is very debateable.
