Both. They were both important in bringing modrn music to where it is. A little known fact is that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presely got there stat at th same record lable around the same time (sun records owned by Sam Philps). Elvis was revolutionary in his dance moves and John was revolutionary in rebel ways. They are also on even footing on drug abuse and the fact they are both dead. Johnny Cash though is unique. Not many people have the bakers field sound and on top of that there is his deep voice.
Personaly I like Johnny Cash becasue I can relate to every single one of his songs, I feel the power in his voice. It gives me chills down my spine. When I hear Elvis I hear something that was dupilcated a thousand time by a million other artists in the next decade and the fact that his songs just don't have the sincerness that Johnny Cash has.

Haha. definately agreed that Jerry Lee Lewis kicks both their asses. Except he was a bit weird.

My vote goes to Johnny Cash because i love his music more. What Johnny did for Country music was huge, but i guess you could argue the same for Elvis and What he did for Rock and Roll. Except that country is still going strong and you won't find too many real rock and rollers out their today. But back in the day Elvis was very good at what he did.

Johnny Cash's voice does it for me. But Elvis had the hips, baby!

Commercially Elvis Presley would've revolutionised the concept of rock and roll in popular far more deeper than Johnny Cash whilst Johnny Cash would've been the more profound artist of the two, it depends on what scale you are comparing and whatnot.

It depends on whether you consider writing songs with a clarity and social comment, substance and quality over someone who got famous cos he could sing like a black man and could shake his hips. I'm not trying to disrespect Elvis but would he have been as great if the racists in the so-called music industry had promoted James Brown, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry to the same degree
