I am a Catholic who has a strong faith and belief system. I believe in the love and presence of God. (open minded to other beliefs too). I am also a lesbian - it has taken me a while to reconcile these two things, especially since so many answers in the LBGT section of this site (for example) have such nasty and negative answers from self-proclaimed Christians. I just wanted to know if there are other LBGT Christians out there and what they may have gone through. Also, this part is not a question, but I wanted to add that not all Christians are homophobes and it makes me so sad to see such negative comments from self-proclaimed Christians. Jesus said to love your neighbor people, not ask them about their sexual orientation and if you agree with it, then love them! So, recap, question is are you out there and what have you gone through?

I'm out there and I'm Catholic as well. It took me the better part of the last nine years to understand that I was loved by a God who sees merely the intent to live my life as dictated. True, I fail and fall short of the Glory of God, does that mean I give up? No. It means I strengthen my walk and continue on. Remember the movie Dogma? It's the message. Not the way it's construed. People will always use the Word of God to their advantage. It's sickening and sad in the eyes of anyone who knows that for all the wrongs of mankind, lack of love, honor, and respect to all is the worst. The Lord asks that we honor Him in everything we do. We need to remember that it means we must also honor Him in everyone we meet and come in contact with. Our lives are so intrinsically connected to everyone in our surroundings that by denying a fraction of humanity, we negate any sort of Christian life we claim to lead. Our goal isn't to make life hard for each other, it's supposed to be about holding each other up and working towards the common goal; glory unto the Lord. When the Christians who spew hate and vile words whilst clutching the Bible and proclaiming that this is God's will quiet down, they'll realize that the only thing they have succeeded in doing is saddening the Lord and drawing out his grief.

I was raised Catholic. I won't say that the issue of sexual orientation was the only thing about the church I disagreed with (for starters, I disagree with the notion of papal infallibility, and I disagree with BOTH of the only two statements it was ever used for). I decided Catholicism wasn't for me, and realized that I had no reason to really believe in any one thing over any other, so I'm kind of at a "I guess I'll find out when I get there" state, as I have been for several years.

I can understand your faith and beliefs, but also realize that many Christians try to impose their personal interpretation of Biblical passages upon others. The only reconciliation needed is between what others tell you and what you you can know yourself. The passages of Matthew 6:5-8 say it best. Some people go around judging others and saying how Christian they are, while others lead a truly Christian life.

True, I would like to ask these self proclaimed christians: Where in the Bible does Jesus himself speak against homosexuality? I want to know the exact verse, chapter and book in the NEW testament where Jesus said this.

Not a christian here, but the partner is. I found MCC, Metro Community Church for her, and you should check it out too. They are all over the world, and their ministry is GLBT. If you have never seen a crossdresser in church fully dressed and helping with communion, you have not lived. The freedom, the beauty and the faith is what the christian message is all about. Too bad all that black hearted hatred gets in the way for alot of christians to "get it".

God bless you!

Like you I have wrestled mightily with this issue from coming out and being "healed" on the alter. Through a wide variety of religions and spiritual paths.

By the grace of God I have found an accepting, welcoming church and church family. And I'm sure you will too.

First of all, it is not a bad thing to be homosexual within the Catholic church (I am Catholic too). It is only a sin to engage in homosexual acts. however all that means is that you are called to live a chaste life. Check out www.pureloveclub.com for more info.

God Bless
