Canadians in the US, or Americans in Canada, can stay 180 days in a 365 day period. After that ... if you cross back into your home country, and try to go back into the other country, you "might" not be allowed to. Also, you need to maintain an address in your home country, this is to keep whatever benefits you have in that country (i.e. canadian health care).
They don't keep strict records on this, but they do keep track somewhat. Especially if you are going back and forth across the border a lot.

I'm amending my earlier answer after I talked to my hubby some more... it seems that Canadians can stay in the U.S. indefinitely wihtout a visa as long as they can support themselves without working in the U.S.
"Citizens of Canada are exempt from the visa and passport requirement
of Immigration and Nationality Act (section 212(a)(7).) To enter the
United States, a Canadian citizen must be able to establish both
identity and citizenship."

thrilling question. i think of greater than a number of the medical advances might have come from Europe besides because of the fact greater than a number of the U. S. are descended from eu colonists. perhaps the concepts does no longer have befell as immediately although because of the fact Europe replaced into economically crippled after the 1st worldwide conflict. usa's intervention interior the wars and its advocacy for self determination a great deal helped velocity up the efforts to guard peace in Europe. regardless of if different than that i do no longer think of the worldwide could be in a a lot worse state than this is on the 2nd. Human rights stream might have went on regardless and great Britain in specific replaced right into a huge hotspot for Asian and African immigration. in certainty the united kingdom is a much greater multicultural society immediately than the U. S..

Depends on what your business is for coming in the country. If it's merely for holiday, stays usually are limited to a few weeks or maybe a month. If you're a student attending university, of course your visa will allot for your time in school. But from what I've heard from friends both leaving and entering the country, prepare to be very specific when explaining why you want cross U.S. borders.

We're both free countries
as long as you obey laws and taxes etc respectively to each country
Canadian citizens do not need a visa to enter the USA
If you were born in Canada, you can always come back, I think the same if you got citizenship too
