my mother always told me this little saying when i was a little girl..it might help you:

You son is your son till he takes a wife, but your daughter is your daughter for all of her life

bless you

Well, try to be happy for her, although if she is in college she is still a bit young to get married in my opinion. So, I hope that she is doing the right thing. Maybe you are concerned about that??

It is like every stage of life....it is sad when the get on the bus for kindergarden.....it is sad when they hit high school....even sadder when they head off to college. Marriage, bittersweet, I imagine.

She will always be your daughter. She will always love you. She will always return hold you dear. She will always come home in some capacity, be it holidays.

Think of it as a new change for your relationship......not an end. You are not losing her, but gaining a son......and someday some beautiful grandchildren. This is a new adventure for her...and in many ways for you as well.

Don't butt in, don't over do......be a good mother in law so you will always be welcome!

Enjoy the big day.

I can not relate, yet, (my son is 12) - but I will sooner than I would think. (He was just in diapers! WTH happened? Time warp?)
I just read your question, and wanted to say - Congratulations!

As a man, may I suggest you are gaining a son? Right?
Sons are special too.(lol) All that heavy manly stuff, right?
So this is a very good and special time, coming into your life.
Again: Congratulations!

I understand completely. Just be happy FOR her, even though it is tough for you. I had this conversation with someone today because my daughter is going away to college next year, and they just said to be happy that she's doing what's right and not on drugs, an alcoholic, or other things that are messed up. It could be MUCH worse. . . . . .Good luck!

The payoff is being a grandparent, I think my Mom loves her grandchildren more than her children. A grandparent gets all the joy and none of the drudgery. So hang on and grandchildren will add a new dimension to life.

I'm passing you a huge hug through this PC. My little girl is now 8 and i'm just starting to realize how much I am tied up in who she is. It hurts me to even think she'd ever want to move out. I hope my daughter makes me as proud as yours is making you. She's in college and now she's going to start a family. Lucky you. You've done a good job.

Yes. This will pass. You and your daughter will develop a new and even closer relationship then before. You will be sad for a bit but it will go away. Congrats to you and your daughter.

Old line............ not losing a daughter but you are gaining a son. but all kidding aside. you have not lost your daughter. the marrage will bring you close again. she'll be calling you all the time for marrage and housekeeping advise. and then when the grandchildren come you'll wish she was back in college again. you'll never have time for yourself

Yes, but don't worry. You are not losing a daughter, you are gaining a son.
