I heard an interview with a guy who makes custom drumsticks for most of the famous drummers in the world. He said all of them said Ringo was incredible.

I have never heard him do the things that Neil Pert, Carl Palmer, John Bonham, Keith Moon, etc. did, so what makes him great?

I am not a drummer, and I would like to appreciate his talent more (I am a huge Beatles fan, and I like Ringo).

i have been a pro drummer for many years. ringo is an ok drummer but nothing special - he does a fine job keeping an even tempo however does not compare to the ones that you have mentioned. further more the ones that you listed pale in comparison to great jazz drummer such as: the late buddy rich,or vinnie coliuta, or my favorite dave weckl.

he's a distinctive form of drummer. you would be able to desire to savour that the guy performed for the main suitable composers of our time and did no longer pass a beat. that's no longer all approximately how complicated you beat those leather-based skins yet how precisely you do it and how rhythmically. so some distance as John Lennon's assertion the "he wasn't even the main suitable drummer interior the Beatles," is like lots of the fly-via issues John Lennon reported. The humorous subject is that, with the aid of fact the tale is instructed, whilst John went on his very own, supposedly to play what he wanted with whom he wanted, he became at one factor recording with yet another drummer who became beginning to objective his endurance till John finally yelled: "Play it like Ringo does!" plenty for no longer being the main suitable drummer interior the Beatles.

He's considered a journeyman drummer. Keeps the beat well, nothing spectacular.

I'm a drummer and to be honost with you, I think he just gets his credit for being in the Beatles. He's good, but I wouldn't dare say incredible.
