Is it possible to ensure the tolerance of cultural diversity worldwide?

Wonderful question. In theory the answer is yes, but in reality it is not that easy. From Alexandre The Great to Jesus to Muhammad the idea of unity and tolerance has been tried and failed. We, humans, always want more than we have, constantly driven by our self-interest and greed. As long as it suits somebody in power to be tolerant they shall preach it, but as soon as more can be gained in other ways the prayer changes. So in the today's consumer society I will have to say NO, to your question, because it's a lot easier to take from your brother than to create for yourself and cultural differences is the easiest excuse to start war. 'We fear what we do not understand', so we destroy it.

I'd like to think that it is. But that being said, when taking into consideration all the ignorant blokes in the world that have existed since the dawn of time (and I don't see disappearing anytime soon...) I just don't see how it will ever be possible. Between Hypocrites and fanatics... there will always be people who will see their point of view as the only "right" view, and will do everything in their power to change others.

Sadly, I don't think that until we find away to end that type of mindset, we will be able to ensure anything for anyone in regards to tolerance.

I believe evolution and progress will deplete many of our cultures. Mankind has a very hard time with change even if it is for the best, old habits die hard as they say. There are many many cultures that are extinct and for some peoples favorite passtime they study some and try to revive them but through no avail it has never happened. Barbarianism is not a culture and that seems to be the common denominator of mankind, we all know how to get ugly, and find a reason to blame it on one another or one in particular to the point of genecide in some cases, like the attempts that were made before. We are kind of like the praying mantis or the black widow spider. But then again butterflies are free and beautiful it is a matter of what you wish to be.

No. For as many people as there are out there that would love to see people accepting other people there will always be other people who are blaming people for there problems. That is essential where all hostility derives. When a culture feels oppressed it tends to blame a culture with less problems to be the root of their problems. And then comes hate. Unless the world turns into a perfect Utopia where everyone has as much and exactly the same as the next guy there will always be hate. However I believe the scenario I just described is communism, boy is that scary!

It is the economic diversity which can cause greater problems with the rich exploiting the poor in more and more subtle ways than ever before, the globalization being the latest ploy for the purpose! In this scenario, all cultures have taken a back seat in people priorities.

anything is possible however it is something we must work and strive for rather than sit back and wait for someone to spoonfeed to us. which seems to be the thing to do for alot of us, who prefer to know what j.lo is wearing and what arnold said ,but have no clue as to how their representatives voted, or how US foreign policy affects others in the international community, I believe magazines like ad busters and groups such as doctors without borders help promote tolerance .so does the aclu which provides free dvds promoting tolerance to those who will agree to show them to others. I have personally shared about four of those dvds myself, education and awareness are key, the issue is the paradigm for change, knowledge, skill, and desire, these are the ares we must focus on to bring about change. so if we educate others they will have knowledge and hopefully this will lead to desire for change and we can look to others in the past or present who promote and create change if we lack the skill

Yes, it is, only if people worldwide change their views about other cultures. Ethnocentricity is one major problem, it always has been.

As long as you homogenize all the cultures to be inherently 'tolerant' -- sure why not.

I don't believe you can ensure this. We can strive for it by teaching our children and those around us tollerance of each other. Our differences are what make us great.

Evolution plays favourites.
Sorry weaklings your days are numbered. And notice how you assign me the identity of your own prejudices -- hypocrites.
