Scientifically, accents are not heard when you sing because of the way you move your mouth and throat when you sing, as compared to when you talk. I mean in real singing, not rap and all that. The Beatles were brilliant singers. But you definitely can hear the accent in several parts of their songs- which makes the songs even more lovable!!

The reason the Beatles didn't sing with an accent (or more correctly why did they sing with american accents) was that they learnt to sing listening to american records. So they subconsciously imitated Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran etc.

They did. you can make out their english accents a lot more than a lot of bands. but when people sing it often disguises a lot of their accent. Take most irish singers for example. but their accents are definately noticable to me.

Elton John and George Michael didn't either. It seems that accents seem to disappear when you sing!
