there are different reasons some are because of hatred others are because of jealousy and confusion
the french are an extremely arrogant bunch for a people that has been CONQUERED TWICE in the last 100 years - so they bring alot of spurn on themselves from saying such things as they are the only people to bring fashion - style - class - etiquette - etc
the time of france has been over for a quarter of a millenium and it ended on the plains of abraham in quebec , canada when france lost all her north american possessions to england after the indian wars - in thier minds they are still great - a footnote here . people make fun of germans alot too

People make fun of cultures all ove rthe place I dont think its just the french. Im french and Ive heard my fair share of jokes... Its all good. I think you may just be taking it to personal.

Because they can. I'm half French and I certainly see the humour of the situation, but then again...I see the humour in most situations.
To anoldmick~to say nothing of potatoes, they hurt a lot more than baguettes and quiche. We don't waste wine by throwing it, we drink it. Which I suppose might cause our aim to be a bit off... ; )
