It is important to note that Jesus is looking at the outward appearance of peoples actions here. We are not saved because of our actions. So, you can't go to God saying "I have done this" and "I have done that" as if your works make you worthy of salvation. Just because we say we love God and do good works does not mean that we are saved. So, we shouldn't think for a moment that God owes us something, and we shouldn't go to God expecting a due reward. Salvation is His work. And the evidence of true salvation in a person's life is this: that they do the will of God. That is, doing good deeds is not a way by which we can earn our salvation, but God has chosen the elect from before the foundation of the world so that they could be set aside, and when the fullness of time has come, Christ regenerates the heart and the spirit of a person which then, in turn, causes them to do His will. Therefore, it is true to say that he who does the will of God is a child of God, but it is important to note that their works are not the reason they have become saved; it is the product of their salvation and the evidence of it in their own heart. A true believer shouldn't think that he or she has chosen Go but rather that God has chosen the true believers. In this there is no boasting, only humility and thanks giving in the grace of Christ. Don't fall into the trap of believing that this verse says we have to do God's will in order to earn salvation. The message here is contrary to that entirely. Works don't save. Christ must do ALL the work. We cannot add to His work. He has done it perfectly.
