I quit my last job of 3 years as a cook because I have a high risk pregnancy. I thought I could handle not working, but I am going insane at home! Also, I feel bad for my husband being the only one supporting us, I have worked every day since I was 12, so I just feel really weird. I am concerned though, if I go for an interview and tell them I am 4 1/2 months pregnant they might not hire me. On the other hand, if I dont tell them, they will obviously know soon and maybe be upset that I didnt disclose this to them. Anyone else have experience with this at all. I live in Washington state by the way, if that matters at all.

My doctor did not tell me that I shouldnt work, I just have to be on light duty, and after asking my former boss several times to accomidate that request, she screwed around for two and a half months. So I finally just quit. I can perform a job that I dont have to lift over ten pounds, and I can take a break every two hours, which isnt too hard to find. I am not looking for a professional job or anything.

You need to approach the more relaxed job of your choice with great enthusiasm. Let your personality and charisma shine through during your application and interview process, and then after your potential employer sees what you have to offer and the type of person you are, bring up the fact that you are pregnant, which is why you initially began looking for a new job that would be less taxing on you at this time.
You do need to tell them because of paid leave issues, etc, but it does not have to be the first thing you tell them. Let them see how much they need you first. Good Luck!

You unfortunately are caught between a rock and a hard place. If you disclose you will NOT get the job. The only options you have in disclosing is temp jobs where they won't have to pay you maternity leave and have you off for awhile. In fact that is what I would recommend for you at this point.
On the other hand if you don't disclose your employer is going to be very ticked off. Depending on how good they are they may or may not take it out on you.
I would recommend doing temp work for the next few months. You can make some decent money and get some good experience. Some jobs would suck but some are pretty decent. Good Luck with it!

I too live in Washington State and work in a HR dept. NO do not disclose your pregnancy. You will be hired based on past experience and how you express yourself during the interview.
I wonder about your prev. job.just curios if you have a high risk pregnancy you should have taken FMLA if you qualified. and most of all- if you are having a high risk pregnancy, check with your Dr. before you look for a job. You don't want to waste a prospective employer and your own time on a job that won't work for either of you. Best of luck and congrats on your baby, thats awesome!

Now, let's think about this, you quit your job because your pregnancy is high risk. But you are going nuts staying at home, so the risk is not as high?
If your pregnancy is high risk, then you should not be working. In a few months you will be out of it anyhow.
Don't feel guilty about your husband working and you staying at home, you are putting your health at risk and putting stress on your body by being pregnant. Hubby will get over it.
Why don't you plan your nursery, and get ready for the baby while you are waiting.

You mention that you have a "high risk" pregnancy, why would you want to put yourself and the baby in jeopardy?
As to your question, at 4 1/2 months you should be showing. Although an employer cannot ask whether or not you are pregnant, s/he should see it, and decline to offer you the job because someone else is "better qualified". No employer wants to have a lawsuit on their hands if the baby is born deformed, or worse.
My advice: reconsider.

I do not know what is the employment act of your country says, but in Malaysia where I reside, we will send all employees for a medical check up. Since the govt has arule for maternity protection, thereforw any companie will not hire you while your a pregnant. We will advise you to come after your cofinement. I am advisng you base on Malaysian law, where I am employed as a human resource senior executive.

You could earn money by doing customer service work at home;answering and making phone calls for companies like WorkathomeAgent,Cloud10 Corp,Auralog, etc. These are genuine companies and do not ask you for any upfront payment. You might find info on http://tinyurl.com/ze4lg very useful.

To not hire you or to fire you simply because you are pregnant would be blatant discrimination. They would be opening themselves up for a potential lawsuit. No, you would not have to tell a possible employer you were pregnant.

Like the last person said, them not hiring you because you are pregnant is discrimination. Tell them up front that you are pregnant.
