What can we do in Ansterdam?

Question

going to Ansterdam as part of our overseas trip during jan 07 and are wondering what we can do there for between 5 and 8 days..
ideas?

Amsterdam can be wonderful for you even if you do not indulge. I've had a few clear days there. The Anne Frank musuem if it has not changed was a place that I would recommend. When I was there inside their home a plane went over and every one got really quiet and it was just like being thereduring that awful time. The museums previously mention are great. Just walking around enjoying the Dutch. Shopping-look for open air markets, I got some great boots ten or more years ago and they are still in great shape. Have you ever looked at the shoes the Dutch wear? Heavy Duty. You can also buy flower bulbs. Make sure you can take them or send to your country, They will state that info on them. There is water all around and the North Sea is really close. There is the biggest high tech water barrier in the world close to Amsterdam all though I am not sure where. They also were building a new sort of living quarters near the sea due to the fact the Netherlands is sinking. Let's see what else oh, you can eat any kind of food you could imagine there. There are many places to listen to wonderful music and dance. Amsterdam has the best diamonds, check them out. House boats are cool-there is one I think on Singel that has houndreds of cats living on it. the skinniest house in the world. dam square-people watching. And as always, more so here. keep your hand on your poketbook. they have schools there that teach people how to pick pocket. They are very good. I know. This very distinguished gentleman in his 50's took me for my pocketbook but,no money. he cut it right off my neck and I did not even know. They will not hurt you and usually they will throw your passport where it can be found so if you stick around for a few days you might get it back . (The police told me this) Hope my spelling is correct the spell check does not work. I just read your question again and just because the people who replied like the freedom that Amsterdam allows, you should not try to make it only what you want. there is some thing there for everyone and fyi most of the dutch do not over indulge and do not respect people who do.

Most drugs and prostitution are legal in Amsterdam. As well there's lots of awesome art museums (van Gogh, Rembrandt). You might also find the dykes insteresting (things that hold the water back--Holland is largely reclaimed from the sea). It is also famous for tulips.

Loads. It's a great city in the daytime.Take hikes all over the place and get a good hotel.Visit the Zoo.
