Don't do anything with it but tear it up. It is a scam. Trust me. I got the same letter today and notified the inter pol and police. Once you put that check in the bank, the scammers have your bank info and they will CLEAN you out and you will be stuck with the charges....DON'T DO IT>.
You can always call the number.Just don't devulge any personnal info to them. The money on the check is actually stolen from other people.

One way to know if it's a scam is ask yourself, "Have I entered any contests lately?" If the answer is no, you can be pretty sure it is a hoax. If your mom calls that number, they will more than likely ask her for her banking information so they can deposit the "tax" money into her account, but what they will in fact do, is steal what money she has in that account!
If something seems to good to be true, it almost always is a scam!

I think so. I know someone who received a similar letter. They needed the money and cashed the check, which was for $5000. Now they have to pay back the bank and they had to convince the bank and the cops that they were scammed.

Just watch out. Many of those scams say you won money but require you pay $500 or $1000 for a processing fee. You never see the money.

Did she enter a contest? If not it is highly unlikely that she "won" anything I don't personally know this "company" but it sounds like it is definitely a hoax. the adage," If it seems to good to be true it probably is" applies here!

ABSOLUTELY A HOAX!! I got one of those letters and it preys on your hopes of the "one in a million chance" of changing your life. It may not be the exact same one I got, but it sounds similar.
This website is great for checking out any scams/hoaxes/urban legends. I bookmarked it to the page I got my info from for my letter. Check your Mom's letter out on here and Be Careful!
