Help kids! Some of them have been sexually or physically abused. Interview the child and family members, figure out of they should live with a different family member or in foster care, monitor how everything is going for the child, you will keep contact with the child to make sure everything is okay and the child is able to live a good life.

I think the description "child advocate" can cover a fairly broad spectrum. Basically, a child advocate looks out for the well being and rights of children, in general. Not necessarily welfare children, although welfare children are certainly included. I think most child advocate jobs, however, are usually government related and have a lot to do with needier children who may not have the same opportunities as wealthier children. Such as making sure all children get affordable immune shots, health care, etc. Making sure children have proper food and clothing. Making sure children are under the care of responsible adults. Making sure children are getting a proper education, etc. A child advocate would be working for the agencies that govern these various programs. And I am sure there are independent institutes that could also fall into this category career-wise. But it's not my line of expertise. If you look up Child Advocate on the internet, you will likely find a range of opportunities that all fall into this category.
