I think it's probably the most common sexual orientation. I think most people, whether they call themselves gay or straight, have from time to time sexual feelings for people who don't normally fall into their preferred partner group.

For some people, their attraction is split rather evenly between both men and women. Such people, I think, would be most apt to call themselves bisexual.

I don't see why this is such a controversial thing for some people, though.

I wanted to answer this last night but I had reached my daily limit. Speaking as a bisexual I can safely say that yes it is a legitimate sexuality. I get pissed when people say it isn't, especially gay people who are supposed to know how painful it is to be judged on your sexuality.

I am equally attracted to both men and women, currently I'm in love with my girlfriend and wouldn't trade her for the world, but that's because of who she is not what she is. If you can feel attracted to a guy and if it's possible to feel attracted to a girl then why would someone not be able to be attracted to both? Even after I started going out with my girlfriend I still have plenty of porn from both sides of the track.

I just don't care about gender, race, or other things I view as superficial. Some people may hold more importance on gender, but I just don't. I don't mind if they only like women or men but they sure as hell can't tell me who I like and don't like.

You are experiencing the oppression and discrimination that exists within the queer hierarchy...

Homosexuals at the top of the pecking order
Bisexuals
Androgenous
Binary Trans
Nonbinary Trans
..
..
..etc.

Sadly, even oppressed people can oppress other people... I have posted papers that i've written about the queer hierarchy and queers oppressing queers.

Yes, bisexual is a sexual orientation. It is a valid sexual orientation. However, western culture is so dicotomized, we are taught to see things in black and white, in extremes. You're either heterosexual, or you are homosexual, and if you are something different you won't be acknowledged because it threatens the validity of the other two groups who seem to be warring against one another, a third (or even 4th or 5th etc) group just isn't very appreciated by some... =(

Below is a link to the papers I have written about this.

It is very important that we learn to recognize everyone's right to define their own identities, not just certain groups' rights to define their own identities. I am so very sorry that you are experiencing discrimination because of people's selfish ignorance that they are projecting onto you.

And for the person above who made the comment about bisexuals and "hermaphrodites" you have offended me greatly. My partner happens to be intersex and identifies as bi/omni-sexual, a human being, just as valid as you are.

Second link to papers i've written about intersexes

I've been a bisexual all my life and practicing since I was 12. Since I react sexually exactly the way to both men and women, I believe my sexual orientation is bisexual.

Yes, it is. You have to understand, a lot of people, straight and gay/lesbian, look through the rose-colored glasses of their own orientation when they ponder the orientation of other people. They don't understand bisexuality because they only know and feel comfortable with their own orientation. They seem to know there are "opposites" to them (whether that opposite be straight or gay/lesbian) but they cannot fathom a completely different, yet also similar orientation to their own orientation ever existing.

Most people associate bi as confusion but the TRUTH is not.

Yes it is an actual orientation, just as straight and gay are.
People who look at you funny simply don't understand. Educate them. Tell them that everyone has a list of what they find attractive in another person. Your list simply doesn't have gender on the top of the list.

Maybe for some. But a lot of gay men claim to be bisexual because it's not considered to be as bad as being gay. I think some young heterosexual girls claim to be bisexual because it's become acceptable for girls, even considered cool. Honestly, I think people are usually either gay or heterosexual.

I do think that both gay and heterosexual people cross the fence from time to time. By that I mean that sometimes, for instance, gay men will have sex with women. Or that heterosexual men will sometimes have sex with gay men. But they usually have a strong preference one way or the other.

well i guess it could be, but a lot of people i know said they were bi then said they were wrong and just confused. I think it really depends on the person, like if theyre the kind of person that like to do that for attention or if they really like both. so yes it is.
