We have an older house with the old fashioned keyholes in the bedroom doors. The large, traditional shaped keyholes in which you would put one of those old fashioned looking keys into. The keyholes are still there but there aren't any keys for them. The locks is sort of a deadbolt that the key would move.

Is there anywhere I can get one of those old fashioned keys? Would a locksmith have to specially make the key to fit the lock, or did those old fashioned keyholes just have generic type keys that don't have to be specially fitted?

Or would I have to have a new lock installed?

It's called a "skeleton key" and I actually found some at WALMART of all places! They came 2 to a pack and were in a shrinkwrapped card. They worked for us!

in some towns they have restoration shops ... where you can find keys ... You can aslo look up the make and model of the locks and go from there... probably ebay ... auction houses... and maybe a locksmith... but they probably dont make those kinds of keys..readily.... . The martha stewart web site may help.... But this is a restoration / antique problem.. There has to be someone that custom makes keys....

Yes, a locksmith can make a key to fit the lock. They aren't all the same. It's a process but a good locksmith can do it for you in 15 minutes.

Lowe's sells them.

I found them at Lowe's in their key making department, had to get some to keep the kids out of the bed room when me and the woman were getting busy.

I also have a SKELETON key door lock on my front door. A lock smith should be able to help you.
