There's no right or wrong to selfishness. It depends on what role you are playing in life.Everyone have their own duties in life.

We have duty to be a good: > son or daughter > son-in-law or > good daughter-in-law > teacher if we teach > pupil in school > employee at work > employer > citizen > parent > a good person...etc

We may at times offend some people while trying to be good. ie. Being a smoker, I have to find a 'good and right place' to smoke because I know that It's very selfish to smoke in an enclosed area. But, is there really a 'good and right place' to smoke on planet earth? NO! Am I selfish???

I think it's alright so long I smoke only in open air area knowing it will still cause air polution. Am I selfish???

Am I selfish to smoke? YES! I'm being selfish to myself!

I think basically doing things that are not against our conscient is not selfishness.

Someone told me a long time ago there is selfishness and self-centeredness. You learn the difference with time. And if you're older you will know the difference i hope. Sometimes selfishness comes down to self-preservation. Is self-preservation wrong?

Not at all.
It is just NATURAL.It is called "being territorial". It is an attribute to all the animal reign.
The way we use it makes the difference between people.
It is also wise to understand the selfishness of others so we can establish no man's lands between each other.

I had a drinky and a thinky
If you get hurt alot or people you trust let you down ,
because the brain is designed to solve problems,
it learns from its mistakes and basic survival kicks in.

but saying that some people can be just selfish.
So it depends.I don't think you should give to those who don't deserve ,because otherwise they will never learn and just take take take.
