I grew up in a small, boring, Bible Belt town in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't wait to get out and have never been back. My parents and brother still live there and everytime they come visit me they say they will never come back and don't know how I can live in the city...

I moved away from the city I was born in when I was 19 years old. My parents were ok with it, but my mum and I missed each other a lot. We talked on the phone every couple of days.
I lived in many cities and towns.
Last year I left my home country and spent the year in Siberia. This year I'm living in Mexico. My son was ok with me leaving last year, but this year he's unhappy that I haven't returned home.
My friends put a lot of pressure on me to return to New Zealand even though I told everyone I planned to be away for 5 years.
My friends all travelled when they were younger. I stayed home and raised my son instead.
Everyone understood why I wanted to travel last year, but they're suprised I haven't returned. I guess it's because I'm much older than the usual person going on an extended OE.
Leaving home, whether you shift to another city or another country is exciting, scary, and excellent for your development. Go for it!

Yes, we both (hubby & myself) did after a year of our marriage. Moved to a suburb of the city we were both born in.
