Man, so far 11-3 for rejecting immortality.

The difference between rejecting immortality and suicide for me is virtually nil. I am appalled everytime this question gets asked, but I'm never surprised.

You won't see many atheists rejecting immortality...

If you had to live forever and could never die even if you wanted, then I would probably reject it because that could turn out to be a real curse. (For example, what if the rest of the human race died out and you still had to live on forever.)

However, if you could take the immortality but had the ability to end your life if you wanted to, then I would take it in a heartbeat. I would gain all the experiene, wisdom, love, happiness, etc. that I could until I felt it was no longer worth the pain of everyone else dying around me, and then I would end my life.

On the other hand, if my wife whom I love dearly could not be granted the same thing with me, then I wouldn't take it.

humans, for the most part feel that they are immortal through
various means, some through religion, some through arts that they have produced, some through the medical miracles that they have discovered, etc. they have place themselves in the minds of all and in history, so, in fact, at least in mind, they are immortal, we will all remember them (please note that this question is in the philosophy area). at this point in time we all
know that there is a time line in the human life , how we deal with it is up to the person. so to answer the question at hand,
if the tech was availible to live forever was available would people
use it? dang skippy, there ain't a person on this earth that would want to die, they, and it don't matter of any beliefs, wants to enter the area of the unknowned, unless you are a religious zealot, thinking that you will have a "better life over there with 72 virgins".

When my Savior deems my time on Earth over then my life will just BEGIN. One without pain, sorrow or regret. Just Love, peace, harmony and PRAISE. One I will have earned and deserve through Christ my Lord. YES I would reject immortality through technology when I know it's coming anyway.

There is no such thing as forever in technology, we would always have to get new parts, like a car, and I would not ever want to be at the mercy of mad scientists, they might take too much of their own medicines, ha ha, but to each their own. I would take a transplant of a liver if I needed one to extend my life if it would give me a quality life, (without pain and suffering). But no way to a robocop theory. I think anyone with that ability would be called a Supreme being and that would be too much like God to me and too big of a responsibility. Look at all the complaints you would have to deal with.

such technology has been found by the rishis of India long back and is called Patanjali yoga. Those who believe it practise it and attain immortality

I would reject it, all good things must come to an end. The world would become too populated and it's not natural.

Reject it. Our bodies might still age, and besides, we are experiencing a population explosion now already. How many more people can our planet sustain?

I would regect it. I want to live the life that the good Lord has given me and when it is my time to go it is time. I don't want to live on this earth and see the distruction of mankind by the end.

No stinking way! I want to go home to heaven when it is my time. I want to live in paradise with Jesus and be worry and pain free and be reunited with all of my lost loved ones.
