Being a car of that age and mileage, i am not sure it will help you extend life. If you used it 100k miles ago, then yes. With that said, switching shouldnt hurt either. I have run synthetic oil in my high performance engine for over 100k miles, and that thing still puts down great power and has held together despite have the snot kicked out of it. Although some person has bought into the amsoil hype (or royal purple for that matter) and said only change the filter every 10k, thats incorrect. Sure, you can go longer distances on synthetic, but that is retarded to go 25-50k, regardless of the claims amsoil says. Thats more marketing than smart business practice. Even if you could with that oil, do you really think a 2 grand engine is worth any chance? To be fair, I go 6-8k between oil change intervals when daily driving, and when I raced a few years back, a lot sooner than that.

I have to love all these answers how people think they know what is best. What proof do they have. There is no "best' synthetic oil they are all good as long as it meets the API rating of GF-4. I own 3 Pennzoil oil change stores and I never push one brand over another they are all good. I can say that only because It is the easiest one of the bunch to find in a pinch if you need to add some I sell more Mobil 1 than any. But that doesnt mean it is the best. Oppinions are like Assholes everybody has one.

I am using a Castrol synthetic blend. It was somewhat cheaper than the full synthetic and I wanted to try it first. Actually, all oil starts out the same except for what the individual companies additives are. So you would think that in a sense, there really is no best oil out there, just so it stands up to the mileage that it should..

If you are looking for an easily accessible synthetic, I would run Mobil 1. I have switched to Amsoil because it's the best synthetic available. It beats all of the other oils in every single independent test probably because they were the first to get API approval in the US in 1972. All of my customers and my 4 personal cars are on Amsoil.

I've been using Mobile 1 for 30 years and over a million miles. I've retired vehicles for lots of reasons, but never for a worn out engine.

ill put it out there in the open for everyone to read ask any mechanic any REAL MECHANIC in order
ROYAL PURPLE
VALVOLINE SYN POWER
MOBILE ONE
CASTROL SYN TECH
THATS IT!!!!!!!!!!!! use nothing else
royal purple is strickly a performance oil only use if this oil for high performance as its not readily accessible u have to order it from either jegs or summit or ect. ON all my PERFORMANCE MOTOR DRAG MOTORS AND CIRCLE TRACK MOTORS i break them in with rotella T cuz its a cruder oil helps to seat rings and lifters and bearings then after that 1000mi change usually the 3 change i do one at 50 one at 250 one at 750 then on the 1k change i run VALVOLINE SYN POWER BEST ON THE MARKET IN MY EYES!! but take ur pick any will work

I've heard some good things about Mobil 1, but I'm surprised noone said anything about Royal Purple of Redline.
I use Royal Purple because of it's advertised higher lubricity and film strength. As soon as I put it in the engine, I could tell the difference.
A friend of mine uses Redline. He swears by the stuff.
Either way, you will get extended oil change intervals (once a year), gas mileage improvement, and probably a small horsepower increase.
