The best defensive third baseman of all time is Brooks Robinson. He had 16 consecutive gold gloves. He is the only non pitcher to accomplish this amazing feat.

I was going to say Mike Schmidt, but are you talking about greatest fielding 3rd baseman? Best hitter? Overall? It probably comes down to Schmidt anyway because the guy won 10 gold gloves while winning the MVP 3 times and was a tremendous power hitter, leading the league in homers 8 times.

As far as fielding goes, there was nobody better than Brooks Robinson. The best hitting 3rd baseman was Mike Schmidt followed by Eddie Mathews.

There have been many good ones but when you talk defense the two best I have ever seen were Brooks Robinson and Craig Nettles, and if you are talking about all around you have to include Mike Schmidt, Wade Boggs, and George Brett.

You cannot Judge all the great third basemen pureply because of the circumstance that they come from different eras in baseball, where different strategies effected the gameplay and different rules applied for each basemen...
