A Liberal is a progressive and tolerant individual that is open to thought and accepts what is placed in front of them. Upon which that person determines the ideal that will guide him or her.

Liberals also try to answer a small question or problem with big answers. This becomes a problem when the answer doesn't fit the question. Basically taking a sledge hammer after a fly.

A Conservative is a religious thinking individual who believes that all people have potential and should develope that potential on their own without intervention when not needed. Basically be one unto yourself.

However, Conservatives will force their belief upon people as being right and not allow an open and fair discussion if it violates their belief.

That's were the "far left" (Liberal) or "far right" (Conservative) labels start playing in politics.

So what's missing, Moderate common sense answers to questions from either side.

I'm a moderate liberal, so I do make some mistakes.

It says alot that most responses here are insults & sneers when you had asked for a simple definition.

Wikipedia does a nice job of laying out the basic ideas of what "liberality" is and what is being "conserved" by conservatives.

I could not help but be impressed that the two descriptions bore little resemblence to what it seemed like politicians actually do.

After all the partisan name-calling and put-downs,
a little objective information can come as a real breath of fresh air!

Peace,

;-)

way back to the very begining of this great country there was designated one party by good old George.
But the infighting betwine the delagates that wanted to concerver the language of the constitution ( what is writen therein is as it was ment to be) This group was known as the Jeferson Conservtives.
The other side of the debate wanted to inturpit the wording liberly saying that it is not the very defenition of the wording but the liberal conatation of the idea that maters.
This group was known as the Hamilton Liberals.
So that was the first use of the terms and the conservatives now are represented by the Republicans
Amd the Words do have meaning and have been chosen with blood and sweat to be writ therein.

Liberals believe that the world is unfair, and that the inequities of life can be corrected by government enacting laws and redistributing wealth.
To liberals, fairness = equality of outcome.

Conservatives believe that the world is fair as long as individuals have the freedom to pursue a better life for themselves, and they want government to get out of the way and let people succeed based on their own hard work.
To conservatives, fairness = equality of opportunity.
