With our daughter, we never got one, just used lil diaper disposal bags. even though we take out the trash everyday, it still wasnt enough to keep the stink at bay. we are planning on another baby soon. does a diaper genie to a better job of containing the stink?

Is Diaper Genie Worth It

From personal experience I HATED THE DIAPER GENIE!!!!! It may have not stunk on the outside but open that thing up and HOLD YOUR BREATH!!!!!! You may throw up. It was hard to get it to work correctly, it was hard to get the thing twisted just right so it wouldn't unravel. I threw the thing out the back door. I got a different one. I can't think of the name right now. It is white with some blue trim. You put the diaper in the top and "flip" the handle over and it dumps the diaper into a regular garbage bag. You can also put one of those Renuizit super odor killers in it. I don't even smell a thing when I open it to change the bag once a week. I hope this helps!! Good luck!!!

We had a diaper genie with our first 2 and didn't think that it contained the stink very well. With our 3 we got a Diaper Champ and it's been great. One of the best things about it is that you can just use regular trash bags and it's super easy to use...drop the diaper in the hole and pull the handle to the other side. It's great, well worth the money!

no a diaper genie does not work like you want it to, they do have little plastic bags with a despencer that you can carry in your diaper bag or leave at home, you just tear one off and tie the diaper up and put it in the trash, the diaper genie will stick to beat the band and the germs comes next. the plastic bags are really cheap to, i'm on my third and this is the best i did try the diaper genie, and even a diaper waste basket and both was the same thing

The genie works pretty well! You have to make sure to empty it pretty often though, or things do get kind of stinky. The diaper genie itself isn't very expensive, but the refills can really add up after a while. To save money, we decided to use the diaper genie for poopy diapers and put wet diapers in the trash and empty it every day. That way we don't go through refills so fast! It has definitely saved us a LOT of money, since we only have to buy refills once every few months. Before our new method, we were buying them every few WEEKS.

The Diaper Genie isn't the greatest invention. I had one and it did not contain the smell.

I stopped using it and just put diapers with #1 in a plastic grocery bag and the diapers with #2 went into 2 groceriy bags and got tied really tight! And yes, daily trips to the outside garbage can worked very nicely!

I think it's a pain in the a**, it only holds maybe 25 diapers so your constantly emptying the thing. I'd rather just open a lid and toss, instead of having to place the diaper at the right spot and turn two times. (I only have it because my husband has a very sensitve nose) I now only use for soiled diapers, and put urine diapers in a regular garbage container with an air freshner tied in it (tip: do not use Vanilla, the mixture of sweet smelling breast fed baby poop and Vanilla is just NOT good)

I never used a diaper genie with my 3 kids (one still in diapers), we use a small waste basket in the garage for the diapers...open the door, toss in the diaper and that was that. I had many girlfriends who only complained about the genie, the smell lingered long after the diapers were emptied. Best of luck to you, your spouse and that little bundle of joy!!!!

I had a diaper genie, it was ok the refills are bit pricey. But we purchased a Diaper Champ after having my son, it is so much better, it uses normal size kitchen garbadge bags and the way you put the diaper in (a bit odd) keeps the smell away. It costs a bit more than the diaper geanie, but no refils & I think it keeps the smell away better as well, here is a link.

I had a diaper trash thing that was not the diaper genie brand, but fisher price. Shop around. The one I got took regular trash bags, not special ones I had to buy!
