I think u have to see the question in much broader way. Just imagine a woman from a poor family not having much education and all the family responsibility on her. What she will do? If she has to earn money quickly what are her options.
A. Work somewhere as a maid servant in a House
B. Work as a construction worker in an industry which is a highly laborious job for a woman
C. Work as a waitress in restaurant.

I think a woman can definitely get a job from one of the options listed above. Now where is the question of prostitution comes here? I hope u have got my answer.I think woman themselves are first responsible than anybody else to spread prostitution.
The exceptions might be some cases in Asian countries like India where Woman are sold by the parents to touts for prostitution and are forced to become pros in the brothels. In this case I think the men and women are responsible who don't care for their children. The question of poverty or education is I think insignificant. If u care for ur children u should work to serve them at least two times food in day.

It is not possible to have only three causes for prostitution!!! There are many causes and issues regarding this age old trade. Originally it was, in very generalised terms, a product of society. Women would find themselves in dire straits and turn to prostitution as a means to survive. Alot of women 'chose' this way of life; particularly when the 'service' was controlled within in a 'whorehouse' setting. Women who found themselves alone, for whatever reason, would find solace and companionship in their colleagues; and a mother figure in the matron of the house. In basic terms, for some cases the causes could be poverty, desperation, mental illness, control, drug addiction, and the list goes on. Surprisingly, maybe to you, prostitution is quite often a 'business' choice. Some women see this as a way to get them on to another business venture which is their ultimate goal in life. It appears to me that you're perception of prostitution is really quite limited. You need to look at the bigger picture. It is more complex than you imagine it to be.

I have to answer this with questions. Why only 3 causes?
Why is the question implying that it is the fault of the prostitute, since it sounds as if you are asking why a person prostitutes his or her self?
There are many more than 3 causes if you examine the matter closely. However, you could argue there is only one cause, and that is the environment/society/situation one lives or finds oneself in.

don't think there are just '3' causes for prostitution. i would say that there are quite a number of contributing factors to the reason why men and women prostitutes choose to sell themselves. i'd say the number one factor would be drug addiction, of course. easy money would probably another reason.

eventhough poverty, greed etc may be the cause, being materialistic might lead a girl to prostitution. for example, a minority of girls in Singapore at the age of 13 became a prostitute to buy prada, lv etc etc.

Lack of self-esteem - the root cause.
Lack of a good education to get another job.
Lack of belief that you are worth is within.....and GOD will help you become anything you really really want.

......I'm sure there are tons more...don't even think about it any more!

Women who experienced sexual abuse in childhood
Men who feel they are entitled to behave badly and pay for sex
Women have something men want and they are willing to exchange body for money.

It is a very old profession. If men could control their own bodies, it would not exist.

There is only one. That is to make money. Women exploit the males stronger sex urge.
