You should "cancel out". If you are saying what I think you're saying, then that's what you should do. Narrow it down until you have the answer. For example:

x -10=2 + 2x : This is your algebraic equation.

You should subtract 2 from each side, to get rid, or "cancel out" the 2. You get this:

x-8= 2x

Now you want to narrow down the x value so it just equals x. Subtract x from both sides.

-8 = x

Ta da! There's a simple algabraic equation. If you have any questions, or if I was unclear, feel free to send me a message.

well , i'm not sure what you meant but here is the method for it to do them always right :
first you should know that when you have + or - in a equation you have to narrow the equation . look at the example below :
2x+5=8x-1 ===> the answer is x=1

but when you have a combination of it with * or / some time you have to devide and some time you have to multiply it . example :

(2x+5)/(3x-4) you can not solve this because unless it looks very easy there is noway to solve it . you can not devide or you can not multiply but look at this one :

{(2x+5)/(3x-4)} / {(9x-12)/(4x+10)} in this one couse you see the " / " between the 2 sides of eqation then you can check if you can make it easier . i mean you can cancel them in X like method . in here you can cancel the 2x+5 with 2(2x+5) and also the 3x-4 can be canceled by 3(3x-4) and the answer will be 3/2 !!

i hope this helps . good luck !

it depends on whether the like terms are on the same side or opposite of the = sign.if they are on same side you must combine or else cancel them
bye take care
