Thank you SO much for asking this question. I have two ruptured discs, L5 and S1 and it has been very painful. I am 10 weeks pregnant and worried about the same thing. I have heard that csections are needed, but I would rather not have one if I can avoid it. The only thing that helps is to go to both a chiropractor and a massage therapist. The Chiropractor will help you to get back into alignment and the massage therapist will help with the sciatic nerve pain and train the muscles to hold your spine in place better. Warm is better for me too, the cold just makes the muscles stiff, but keep doing the cold as well. Warm baths and a good massager, (Percussion massagers are best, they don't just vibrate, they actually kneed...you can get them at Walmart or Walgreens.)
I can't sleep on my back or tummy anymore, it is best to sleep on your side, one or the other, usually the one that is less painful (my discs are ruptured on the left side, so the sciatic nerve is more sensitive on that side.) Make sure you don't sit or stand too long...you probably know all this, but any advice is always helpful for me, so all the answers you get I will be reading very carefully. Good Luck and I hope everything works out for you and your pregnancy! Best Wishes!

I have 4 herniated disks myself and this is my second. My first was painful but so far so good on this one only 22 weeks. cold and warm 20 min off 20 min on. See a chiro!!!!! No matter what any other doctor says they rock. I was not even walking and they said I would not ever walk right again then I started going about a month in and I felt a whole lot better. Sleep on your side!!!!!! And make sure you have good arch support in your shoes. When on the computer only 20 min at a time then 5 min walks. My disks are L2, 3, 4, and 5 and S1 is also Damaged. Epidural is a must you don't need those other drugs in the hospital when delivering just the epidural! get it fast and make sure they know your situation. Hope this helps. God bless.

I have four herniated disks myself and that is my moment. My first used to be painful however thus far so well in this one handiest 22 weeks. bloodless and hot 20 min off 20 min on. See a chiro!!!!! No topic what every other health care professional says they rock. I used to be now not even going for walks they usually stated I could under no circumstances stroll correct once more then I began going approximately a month in and I felt a complete lot bigger. Sleep to your aspect!!!!!! And ensure you might have well arch help on your footwear. When at the laptop handiest 20 min at a time then five min walks. My disks are L2, three, four, and five and S1 could also be Damaged. Epidural is a have to you are not looking for the ones different medicines within the sanatorium whilst offering simply the epidural! get it rapid and ensure they realize your concern. Hope this is helping. God bless.

Well it is a general bad idea to be pregnant with any spinal problems espeacially herniated discs. Talk to your doc about a back brace that will keep the wight of pregnancy off of your back, maybe transferring the weight to your pelvis. He may be able to help with some safe enough powerful pain meds if the brace doesnt help. You are going to have one painful pregnancy. Good luck, and rememeber it is all worth it.
Also depending on where the disc is you may or may not "need" a c-section, it may be advised, but you wont "need" one.

Last year I was struck by a pickup truck and haven't really recovered I am 37 weeks into my pregnancy and still have terrible back and hip pains. I was doing massage and I have been seeing a chiropractor through out my whole pregnancy it is totally safe I go twice a week. if you can't afford cause it is expensive you can try cold packs on your back sometimes cold is better then heat. Also of course a warm bath and a massage from your partner is always good. My doctor also gave me celebrex for back aches but of course see your doctor about that I took it in Early stage of my pregnancy good luck to you.

try cold pressure on your spine and try to avoid heat as heat promotes the flow of blood and can cause more pain. there isnt alot you can do about spinal injuries when your pregnant
good luck
