Having sex doesn't affect your period unless you become pregnant. In other words, the act of sex doesn't change when you're period is going to come. Your period comes 14 days after you've ovulated. The difficulty is that, unless you are very aware of your body and take specific steps, you won't necessarily know when you're ovulating. That means that even though your period might be due in a day or two, you can't be certain of it.
Your question doesn't mention birth control, but remember that anytime you have sex, unless you want to become pregnant, you need to use protection.
