motherboard? Is there one in my computer or is it something else?

That basically means that there was too much power running through your computer and something either short-circuited or overheated. This tends to be a bad thing.

Yes, your computer will have a motherboard, every computer does. EVERYTHING in your computer is connected to the motherboard.

If smoke comes out, it's fried... The motherboard is the big, flat green circuit board that is in the bottom or back of the computer that all the other stuff is hooked to. Smaller boards that plug into a socket on the motherboard to hold more stuff are sometimes called risers or daughterboards.

The motherboard is pretty much the brain of your computer so yeah, it has one. If a computer frys it justs means it breaks.

the mother board is the mainboard of the computer,
it is the host for everything. If it was a car, it would be the frame everything rides on.
the CPU plugs into the mainboard, and that would be the engine.
the sound card the horn, the harddrive where you park information.

I would assume the computer had overheated or a surge of electricty had gone through it and fried the wiring.
