if you do not like the cold, down is the best. Goose and ducks love them too!

Cotton is definitely NOT good for a jacket. This will not retain the warmth. The best pick would be down because of its heat retaining property. Nothing else matches the quality of down if you are trying to keep warm this winter season. Plus, it is a great investment because down jackets wear well, they need very infrequent cleaning, and always stay nice and clean. Wool on the other hand is warm, but not quite as warm as down. Wool is good if you just want something most compact and straight laced. So in sum, down or wool would be your best bet. Good luck, and keep warm!

only get down if it gets below 20 degrees for more then 2 monthes of the year. Wool is good, but even with a liner you might get a rash. Cotton is great, but generally for warm climates. Try microfiber and fillers or leather.

down jackets are a good buy becuase the sleeves and body of the jacket are filled with soft, warm goose down. wool is itchy and cotton will probably be too thin.

For warmth can't beat down, easy care
Cotton easy to care for. Not real warm.
Wool is for sheep, but the Navy P coat is a good issue coat, not easy care.Good in a wind.

It depends greatly on where you live. Down would be silly if you are in Hawaii. Asuming you are in a cold weather area, I have always liked goretex and thinsulate myself. Waterproof and warm all at the same time.

Down is warm but it makes you look like the broad side of a barn!

I just got a wintercoat that is very very warm and very light. It's microfiber that makes it seem like suede.
