and also what are some good example bands to suggest?
Sorry for asking so many questions like this. My sister asked me to send her a detailed list of all the metal sub-genres with descriptions and examples.

heavy metal music that was influenced by classical music, like with the harmonies and the rythms. also, using tritones (musical interval that spans three whole tones or six semitones). This common interval is common in many types of heavy metal music, due to its conflicting and evil sound. and using scale sequence (a stylised way of ascending or descending through a scale or mode, where a set pattern is observed), and things like that. The chord progressions, arpeggios, broken chords, and speedy scale runs of neo-classical metal are borrowed from some of the greatest composers, especially Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and Niccolò Paganini.

Are you trying to make me feel ancient??? I was here before metal and now they have had a classical period and are having a neo-classical? Cor! Move over Beethoven.

On the question side, I never really distinguished between the different types of rock so I couldn't even tell you if Led Zeppelin was metal, heavy metal or maybe a fusion band. It's interesting how much faster periods change now a days.

Neoclassical metal is heavy metal fused with classical music. One of the elements is repetition of a scale and notes of a chord played individually.
The most famous examples are Queen, Death, Children of Bodom, Symphony X, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Randy Rhoads.

Tell them it's like Beethoven and Metal... It's a really hard genre to explain, I know! Two of my favorites are Therion (VERY good) and Opeth (not as classical but still very melodic for metal.)

You can look at some videos on YouTube.com or just try and download some of the music. Good luck and ROCK ON!
