The irony of this question is that people who want lots of money really want love - they just think that money is the way to gain love from the world via status and the material objects they buy with it.
No one really wants money for money's sake - it's all for various forms of love - whether to try to superficially attract romantic love or gain love from the world via "respect" (but they usually end up intimidating people instead of being respected). They want people to know they have money (i.e. security and luxury) by driving and wearing their money, because they think that's what everyone wants - money. But they all want luuuurve!
Because even though money has replaced the old system bartering, we only work for it to give it away or exchange for things that have a practical value, as opposed to just monetary value.
I would just like to add that Restless Consumer's answer is so lovely and I agree with them completely.

Definitely love. You can have all the money in the world and still be miserable and lonely. Back to the saying "money can't buy happiness."
