As others have said, best bet is to install netnanny, cyberpatrol, or something like that. At http://www.nonags.com you can get a free program that blocks just porn and nothing else.
However ... please, please, please don't just install one of these programs and assume all is well and let your kids on the computer unsupervised. IMO coming across adult content is one of the least of your worries!
How about IMing with their friends ... and strangers ... and the plans unsuperivsed kids may make online ... to go do something they shouldn't. Dares. Threats. Meeting people somewhere they met online, and the people turn out to be other than they presented themselves as. Kids don't have the discernment and experience to know who is safe and who isn;t, even among kids of their own age.
Your computer should be in a common area of your home, they should only be allowed online when you can be there supervising what is going on ... like have monitor turned towards the room, and you can be watching tv or reading or whatever, but looking up occassionally. If they are under 12, you should be sitting next to them most the time, or at lest more closely monitoring.
Set up your internet so that it can not be accessed at all when you are not there. The internet is a wonderful thing, and a great educational and social tool, but just as you would not let your 10 year old go to the mall alone, or your 14 year old drive a car, or your 16 year old drink, you need to make sure your children are not getting in over their head.

Sorry - but the only surefire way to stop kids looking at inappropriate content is to supervise them the whole time. They are clever, and will always find ways to get around any software or filtering service you can think of.

Best bet is to buy a program that will block that kind of content, such as Net Nanny.
