Well Christmas is special to me because of my memories of celebrating with my now deceased family members. It was a simpler time and even though some of them drove us all nuts in retrospect it wouldn't have been Christmas without them.
I love to remember my lutheran church alight in candles at 11 pm services and the people's voices ringing out in joy to the world or softly singing silent night.
I also remember a time on the Kirschtenbosch Mountains with my friends listening to the CPT symphony and chorus on a december evening 11 years ago and for a time it didn't matter what our socio-economic standards were or our race it just mattered we were together in one beautiful place singing about a silent night and the birth of a baby who would change the world.
Memories like that make Christmas very special to me.

i like the family and friends, the calorie filled food and the decorations. as jesus has nothing to do with 'christmas' i enjoy my seasonal worship of winter being halfwaywith the most tacky decorations 70's music and good laughs and trivial bickering all round, after all thats what a family gathering should be! and 'christmas' is about family! i dont decry different beliefs but stick to you own story book pls.its really annoying when 'true believers' mix and match their religion over centuries just so they can influence every festival!

Alas, it's not as special as it once was, since my boys are now men!
As for the birth of Christ--he was truly born in October (Catholic church changed it to coincide with a Pagan holiday), and his death--Easter---is FAR more important and meaningful than his birth!

well, since I know Yule has no basis in Christianity, I value the "Christ"mas holiday for what it is - a celebration of winter solstice and the promise of the coming year, a time to enjoy family and friendship, a time to appreciate the beauty of early winter, and a time to reflect on the year that's been.
