Dhoom 2 is one film that music composer Pritam will always remember. For not only did it catapult him into the mainstream big league of Bollywood, it also earned him humungous popularity the world over. And no, that album carried a lot of lilting tracks other than the sizzling chartbuster. Now, Dhoom 2 music album was awaited with an amazing eagerness. The retail stores were excited like never before. But the news for the music lovers is a bad one. The sequel’s music score is a big let down. There’s not a single track in this five-track-one-remix-album which has the ability to scorch the top-of-the-charts fate. Crazy Kiya Re and My Name is Ali are decent numbers while Touch Me, Dil Laga Na and Dhoom Again are strictly average. The only track that has the ability to sizzle you with its captivity-quotient is the Crazy Kiya Remix. So, after having had a great year with Gangster, Woh Lamhe and Pyaar Ke Side Effects….Pritam won’t be able to rest on his laurels with ease. And as for the big question, can you buy the music cd of Dhoom 2…I would say maybe listen to the original and give the sequel a miss.

Middle Eastern flavour nudged by flute-n-tabla and the proverbial Rap section…So, what’s so great about Crazy Kiya Re Pritam dude! In other words the beginning of this much-hyped music album is a dampener. Sunidhi Chauhan’s vocals are nothing out-of-the-ordinary. Of course Sameer’s lyrics as expected don’t have anything up-their-sleeves. The tempo of the monotonous beats never really picks up momentum while the electric guitar solo in the middle is no match for the guitar solos in his recent successes like Gangster and Woh Lamhe. Crazy Kiya Re neither invites you to the dance floor nor does it fill you with that sense of deja vu. It’s a let down.

Crazy Remix has been remixed by Bunty Rajput. The original doesn’t leave an impact. But I think at least the rhythm of this remixed version is spot-on. It makes you feel like shaking a leg or two or raise the volume on your car stereo as you decide to go on an idle long drive. Sunidhi Chauhan competently keeps pace with the fast tempo. Vocoder effect has been used very well to swivel the proceedings in this hottie number. A winner on the right platform…And with the right age group….Can you play this one again please…And put it louder!

The moment KK starts belting Touch Me one can feel something missing. Even my favourite Alisha Chinai fails to add her magical touch to this uninspired number. What a let down once again! If you listen to it as just another regular number it may be okay….But considering the music of Dhoom was such a rage and Yash Raj Films always carry a stamp of highly popular music tastes, this one disappoints. Acoustic guitar trapezes left to right while a Brazilian samba rhythm hogs the length-n-breadth of this single dimension song. I don’t feel like touching my rewind button to this Touch Me number. Please excuse…

Sonu Nigam is having a great year. His magical voice was the mainstay of Lage Raho Munnabhai and Jaanemann and although My Name is Ali is no outstanding song, Sonu’s voice takes it to another level. First things first, this song unashamedly carries the flavour of Dilbara Dilbara number from Dhoom which was picturised on Uday Chopra and Esha Deol. Now, you don’t have to be an Einstein to guess that My Name Is Ali is about Uday once again. This time around he has the gorgeous Bipasha Basu for company (She has also lent her voice to this number too….). The Latin influence is clear both in terms of the rhythm design as well as the Enrique Iglesias style acoustic guitaring. My Name is Ali is a fun number that you can groove to…Enjoy…

Dil Laga Na had been hyped as this It-Number before the launch of Dhoom 2 music album. But as I listen to it now, there’s nothing outstanding about it. No, it doesn’t give you goose-pimples nor does it make you feel curious about when it is enacted in the film. I am surprised by the choice of main singer….Punjabi pop singer Sukhbir (Flat and uninspired) has lent his voice along with Jolly Mukherjee (Loud), Soham Chakraborthy (couldn’t make out what he sang), Mahalaxmi Iyer (Sweet) and Suzanne (sexy as ever). It has the most weird line Dhoom Dhoom repeated in a tastelessly tired manner…Now…When do I get my Dhoom Machale dude. This attempted UK Punjabi Underground bhelpuri falls with a belch on the marshy land of expectations.

Finally a sigh of relief for I can finally sight some trace of Dhoom…It’s time to say Dhoom Again…Really….Sorry guys but, even this one’s not worth it. It is clear that Pritam has made a lot of efforts in making this one kick-bass but somehow as before the tempo of the song is wrong. It neither makes you feel like hitting the dance floor nor does it have anything extra to offer. Lots of English chorus vocals coupled with Vishal Dadlani and Dominique’s fine vocals can’t save this one. The magical appeal of the original is sorely lacking in this one. In fact I would say it is not even half as effective at becoming Nation’s Pop Anthem as the original.
