I've done some googling and I think its associated with the longicorn beetle family... any savvy biologist here can help out?

Assassin bugs have a long proboscis, so don't think it is one. Body shape looks like some type of blister beetle. Would not advise handling it just in case.

I believe that's an assassin bug of some sorts...and yes, they give a nasty bite.

Though I could be wrong...I can't seem to find anything like that particular insect at all...but, I still advise you to take caution if you try and handle it...if it bites it might be carrying some kind of disease.
