My friend, that is one FAST processor!
It must be pretty new.

O-K, yes, your Hard drive needs to be upgraded, IF you are running low on disk space (Download a lot of video, do you?)

But your memory is a bigger concern.

You should up-grade to AT LEAST 512 Mb of memory.
More, if you can afford it.

If you have a processor speed of 4.1 Ghz, then I assume that you are running Windows XP.

If yes, then, yes, your PC will support a HD of 200 GB.

To answer your initial question, RAM had no affect on Hard Drive capacity.

So go ahead.

If this is a Lap Top we are talking about, and not a Desktop or Tower PC, then these upgrades will cost quite a bit more.

RAM is Random Access Memory. It has got no relation with Hard Disk Drive's capacity. Higher RAM value will speedup the PC performance. As processing takes place in RAM. Communication/access between various addresses on RAM are electronical where as in case of Hard Disk that is Electro/Mechanical.

as I understand it ram is like cache memory. I don't know that it relates to your 200 gb of hard drive. that is, when upgraded from your current 40gb. You need all the RAM you can get if you are running software like autocad and such. I only have 128mb of RAM and I need to have at least 256mb to download a version of design software. I can buy a new RAM card to either double my RAM or replace the existing card with a 256 or i can get to 512mb RAM by buying 2 256mb cards. more RAM is better than just having enough. How do you go from from 40gb Hd to 200mb? don't you have to replace your Hard drive to do so. cut to the end of story..200mb of HD will support 256 or 512 of RAM. hope I helped some and good luck to you.

and that

It can support it but it'll be slow as hell. You definately need to upgrade your ram to probably 1gb. Ram determines how much your computer can process at once, like how many applications are open at once. Your hard disk space is how much memory is on the entire computer. If you need 200gb im guessing you should have at least 1gb of ram. It'll be worth it.

RAM doesn't really have anything to do with hard disk space . . .

256 ram is a probably ok . .but it's usually easy and relatively cheap to get more memory . . (ram) so upgrade to 512 . . or 1 Gb

and also upgrade your hard disk. you can get an external hard disk for pretty cheap these days, too.

RAM doesn't determine the capacity of your hard drive. The more RAM you have the more programs you can multi-task between. PC's can support a whole lotta hard drive space, just so long as you get the correct hard drive (IDE or SATA interface). Consult your user manual to see what interface hard drive is compatible with your computer.

Yes it will support it, the RAM is not an issue. I would suggest you upgrade to at least 512MB of RAM, but that is just a performance related suggestion, the RAM will have no affect on upgrading your hard drive.

Yes and no, having an empty harddrive helps but only to a certain point. The real issues comes along when you have used a large majority of the drive, which in turn makes it run slower. If your using below roughly 70% on a given drive, i would say you are in the clear regardless of size, so at that point just depends on how deep your wallet is.

RAM has nothing to do with the capacity of your hard disk. You can upgrade to an unlimited amout of hard disk space.

nope Ram has little to do with it. I would suggest you get more though. 256 is not very much nowadays. If your PC will handle 200 gig has more to do with whether your mother board will support it.
Since it is a P4 I would guess it would since it's not all that old.
