Lip Gloss is just meant to give your lips shine and some defintion, but not a long lasting effect. The compounds just go on the surface. The best thing to do is to not eat or drink anything too much. Just know you have to reapply. When wearing a nice lip gloss and wanting to keep it on, don't touch your hands to your mouth or do a lot of kissing.
One product I found that does last longer than most is Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme. It glosses your lips, but after about five minutes the stickiness fades, but your lips still look supple. And it is packed with lots of ingredients good for a pretty smacker.

I use my favorite color lip liner to fill in my lips and apply a clear gloss (bare escentuals nude is my fav) overtop. Beautiful long lasting color from the pencil and lots of shine from the gloss!

Use unflavored lip gloss, and one that has something of a glycerine base to it. It is thicker than most gloss compounds, and if it is unflavored, you are less likely to lick your lips.
