Liberals today are the ones fighting to conserve the constitution.

Conservatives have spent more than any government in US history.

Exactly!!

I consider myself a liberal because I am a constitutionalist. This means that I support and believe in the constitution as the backbone of our country's greatness.

Republicans have been trying to destroy it for 6 years and are constantly opposed to court rulings that uphold it. Everytime the courts uphold the constitution, they come out and say, "Those darn activists judges."

A couple examples:
- abortion was made legal based on the 1st amendment where a person has a right to privacy concerning what happens to their body. That is why it is considered 'choice' not because of when life starts or not. The Supreme Court looked at the 1st Amd and realized that ALL persons have a right to what happens to their body physically. That is why we don't have torture of prisoners. That is why it is illegal to hit a person, etc...
- prayer in public schools was not allowed based on the 4th amendment where no one religion can be given more value than another nor funded by tax dollars. The Supreme Court recognized that based on that 4th Amd., if you allow one type of prayer in public schools, you must allow all kinds. This would include more than a moment of silence which is a christian form of prayer. Budhist chant, muslims kneel and chant, etc...

You see, I, being a constitutionalist, will accept any ruling the US Supreme Court decides. I do this because I believe that constitution is the core of our value system.

Republicans believe in accepting the civil liberties given to them in the constitution but reject the ones they don't like or don't agree with.

It's the very typical Republican double standard.

Ironic ain't it? but deciding to support the Constitutional system is not a Democrat or Republican thing and some people get that. There are Constitutionalists in both parties....kinda so Right you're Left or so Left you're Right...The John Birch Society is a very Right organization, but certainly isn't about knee jerk politics...I am a Liberal who believes that all Constitutionalists are patriots...the rest are mostly politically nuts or against the very thing this country was founded on.

Incorrect, liberals are fighting for the parts of the constitution they like, ie. freedom of speech that they like anything else they try to get censored, most are against the 2nd amendment. Conservatives have stayed in the same place, the republican party has moved to the left and the democratic party has become socialist.

How do you "conserve" the Constitution. I think you mean "preserve". This Administration has not done anything that wasn't done by every President before him.

They do spend way too much money. You got them there. Of course, with 9/11 and Katrina it would've been impossible to balance the budget, but that does not excuse them from the size of the deficit.

Under the Republicans for the 6th year abortion is still legal and you still can't pray in school. And the right to privacy was "implied" according to the Supreme Court. It's not actually written there.

the situation with your question is in defining words. case in point, conservative can advise conserving the status quo. So via retaining the Union, Lincoln replaced into retaining the status quo. yet he freed the slaves interior the territory controlled via the Union. so as that must be seen liberal. And the South had to prevail from the Union. that must be seen liberal, as this is against the status quo. yet they had to keep slavery. that must be seen conservative. It basically shows that labels could be handy to apply, yet in lots of cases wrongly used.
